The Ashanti Region and Greater Accra Regions have already secured their semi-final slots in the ongoing Elite U15 Girls Championship with a game to spare.

The Ashanti Region extended their lead in Group A after securing a 2-0 win over the Upper East Region on Sunday on Match Day 4 of the competition, becoming the only side to maintain an unbeaten run at the group stage.

For Greater Accra, they suffered their first defeat of the competition to the Brong Ahafo Region, losing 4-2 on penalties. That, however, was not enough to deny them a semi-final berth, maintaining their top spot with 10 points, with a game to spare in the group.

In Group A, Northern Region are still in second position with 6 points from 3 games, followed closely by the Upper East Region in third position on 4 points. The final group games for the two sides will determine who joins the Ashanti Region for the semi-finals.

Group B, however, has all semi-finalists secured as Brong Ahafo Region’s win over the Greater Accra has given them 7 points, 4 more from 3rd-placed Upper West. A defeat for Brong Ahafo in the final game will still see them through to the semi-finals.

The ultimate games of the competition will be played on Tuesday.

The Elite U15 Girls championship is part of the GFA’s Women’s Football Strategy which feeds into the FIFA Talent Development Scheme.

The motive of the competition is to identify talent from their formative stages and develop them for the future.
