Sellas Tetteh says the three points picked against Mali at the African Youth Championship was very important.
The 2-0 win against Mali puts Ghana in contention of qualifying to the last four stage of the competition and also enhances their chances of reaching the 2009 World Youth Championship.
Two goals in each half from Gladson Awako and Ransford Osei handed Ghana the deserved win as the Black Satellites move to four points ahead of the final group A game against hosts, Rwanda on Saturday.
Ghana are equal on points with the hosts as group A goes to the finish line with Cameroon, who have two points also in the hunt of reaching the semi-finals.
The win was certainly what Sellas Tetteh, coach of the Black Satellites was hoping for, prior to the game on Wednesday.
"We took our chances well and deserved to win. The victory has put us in a good position to progress,” the Black Satellites coach said.
Ghana’s win did not come easy as Sellas Tetteh admits that the Young Eagles well.
"Yes, Mali played well, but when you don’t score, you can’t win. We played cautiously and won the tie. It was important for us to get this win."
Ghana are top in group A on goal difference ahead of host Rwanda who also have four points ahead of their meeting on Saturday.
