A slow start at the Africa Women's Championship has not left Ghana deflated as the Black Queens chase the top in their group.

Following a losing start in their Group B campaign to Algeria on Sunday, Yusif Basigi's sight is just fixed on the next hurdle, that's Wednesday's clash with South Africa, who also lost their opening game.

Losing their first opening match in their history at the competition, according to Basigi has been put behind them.

“We came with an intention to win. Unfortunately, we had so many chances that we could have converted. The players were desperate and in a rush to score and as a result we missed those chances.

“Football is full of uncertainties. We still have two matches to play. The Algeria game is over,” he said after the opening game.

A tough challenge lies ahead for Basigi and his Black Queens to get back in contention of advancing from the group stage.

“We will go into the game against South Africa as if it’s our first match. It’s a little bit dicey and the fact that South Africa lost makes the group very tough.

“We are still in contention and I’m full of hope that my girls will qualify,” he added.

The top three nations from Championship will represent Africa at the FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada.
