Faith Ladies, Valued Girls level on points in Southern Zone as battle for Women's Premier League slot heats up

Valued girls beat Army ladies 3-1 in the ongoing Regional Women’s Zonal championship Matchday 2 fixture at the Madina Zorak Park.

Both sides won convincingly in their Matchday 1 fixture as the game got underway with both sides exercising caution at the back and passing the ball around very well.

Both teams had decent chances but it was Army Ladies who broke the deadlock of the game in the 16th minute through Kate Bukari.

This seemed a wake up call for Valued girls as they responded by equalising through Daniela Abass in the 26th minute.

Army Ladies tried to restore their lead but Valued Ladies defence made sure they were denied. Dorcas Manu extended the lead for Valued girls in the 36th minute.

After recess, Valued girls kept pushing to extend their lead as they kept the shot stopper of Army ladies bush.

Dorcas Manu had her brace of the day in the 69th minute as the game ended 3:1 in favour of Valued girls.

Faith Ladies proved a tougher opponent for Anlo Ladies in the second match of the day. Greater Accra division one champions, Faith Ladies dominated the game right from when the blast of the whistle and showed superiority throughout the 90 minute.

Faith Ladies started brightly and kept the ball well, which resulted in Jennifer Kankam scoring the first goal of the match.

Faith Ladies kept possession of the ball and dominated in every department of the field as they put 5 past Anlo ladies. Anlo ladies kept pushing for a consolation but their attempt proved futile.

Basake Holy Royals and Essiam Socrates ladies came into this fixture looking for their first win in the competition.

The first half of the final match of the day saw two sides struggling to make an impact on the field.

Sarah Armah put the ball at the top right corner to give Basake Royal Ladies the lead in the 20th minute. Their celebration was cut short as Essiam Socrates equalised on the 28th minute after Fawadze Nyarkoh headed home a corner kick.

After the recess, Basake Ladies got the second goal – an important cushion through Sandra Aidoo in the 49th minute. Basake extended their lead again in the 60th and 66th minutes through Fredericka Kai Addico and Helen Alormenu respectively.

Basake Holy Royals had several chances to get back into the game but couldn’t utilise any of their chances as they were punished in 83rd minute when Helen Alormenu scored a brace.

Basake Holy Royals made a substitution as Amalia Bosomtwe left the pitch for Abigail Nkrumah in the 67th minute but that did not yield any positive result.

The game ended 5:1 in favour of Essiam Socrates.

The competition is expected to continue this week.

Top two teams in each zone after the competition will gain promotion to next season’s Women’s Elite League.
