Ashanti Region secured their second victory of the 2026 MTN Elite U-19 Championship after edging Upper West Region 1-0 in Friday’s opening Group A fixture at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

Mohammed Dayvon proved to be the difference between the two sides, scoring in the 64th minute to hand Ashanti Region all three points in a tightly contested encounter.

The victory marks Ashanti Region’s second success of the competition. They previously defeated Volta Region 5-4 on penalties after the two teams played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in their opening Group A fixture.

In the second Group A fixture of the day, Volta Region responded strongly by defeating Western Region 2-0 to keep their campaign on track.

Agbogah Cisse broke the deadlock in the 36th minute, giving Volta Region a deserved advantage before Samuel Maja sealed the victory with a late strike in the 88th minute.

The result provided Volta Region with an important boost following their narrow penalty defeat to Ashanti Region in their opening game.

The MTN Elite U-19 Championship remains an important pathway for Ghana’s emerging football talents, offering some of the country’s most promising young players a platform to develop their technical and tactical abilities while gaining valuable experience in a competitive environment.
