Ghana finished second in Group B in their debut campaign at the Turkish Women’s Cup tournament after thrashing Kenya 3-1 Tuesday afternoon.

The senior national women’s national team, Black Queens cemented the position with six points having lost to Chile then hammered Northern Ireland 4-0 in their first two games.

Captain Elizabeth Addo was in her element at the Starlight Sport Complex by bagging a brace and then setting up Grace Asantewaa later in the game.

Addo expertly converted a free-kick from the edge of the box as early as the ninth minute before completing her double with a penalty strike 8 minutes into the second half. Striker Princella Adubea won the penalty for the Queens.

A neat exchange between Addo and Asantewaa had the young midfielder hit high a measured shot that flew past the Kenyan goalkeeper to give Ghana a 3-0 lead.

Kenya managed to get a consolation goal in stoppage time.

The Black Queens return home as the second-best team in their group with a trophy and medals to show.

Centre-back Janet Egyir was adjudged best defender.

Coach Mercy Tagoe-Qaurcoo will be hoping to build on the over one-week exercise in Turkey as the Queens get ready for a crucial qualifying eliminator to the 2020 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations later in June.
