The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken decisive steps in response to the violent incidents that occurred at the Nana Koronamansah Park during the match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
In a swift move, the GFA has charged Nsoatreman FC and banned the Nana Koronamansah Park indefinitely. This decision aims to ensure that such incidents do not recur and that the safety of players, officials, and spectators is prioritized.
An investigation team has arrived in Sunyani to probe the incident. The team, led by Chair of the Security Committee of the GFA, DCOP Lydia Donkor, is meeting with the Regional Police leadership and has visited the site of the incident to gather more information.
Meanwhile, the GFA has also shown compassion and solidarity with the bereaved family of the victim. An ExCo member, Fred Acheampong, led a GFA delegation to visit the family in Kumasi, where they were joined by the Regional Football Association (RFA) leadership in the Ashanti Region.
In light of the incident, the GFA has postponed the Ghana Premier League Match day 20 fixtures. The GPL Club CEOs have been invited to a meeting at the GFA headquarters on Thursday, February 6, 2025, to discuss the way forward.
Furthermore, the leadership of supporters groups of all GPL clubs have been invited to a meeting on Friday, February 7, 2025, to discuss their role in promoting safety and responsible fan behavior.
The GFA has also invited the Police High Command to collaborate on tackling the criminal aspects of the incidents witnessed at Nsoatre. This partnership aims to ensure that those responsible for the violence are brought to justice and that measures are put in place to prevent similar incidents in the future and to uphold the integrity of the beautiful game.
